swiss-steak

Swiss Steak

This was fantastic served on a sub bun with melted swiss cheese (broil bun and cheese for a few minutes in the oven). The meat was tender!! Greg couldn’t eat all his, so I ate mine and his. Yes, I do see where this is going…

Ingredients

I used 3 sirloin strip steak
I can diced tomatoes
Sliced mushrooms
Sliced Green pepper
Whole clove of crushed garlic
1.5 sweet onion sliced fairly thick

Instructions

1
Put steak in CI frying pan. I used a 12" enamelled because I love how fast it cleans up.
2
Combine 1/2 cup vegetable oil, 1/2 cup soy sauce, garlic powder, 2 heaping tablespoons of pureed ginger, salt and pepper, Worcestershire sauce to taste. Pour over steaks let sit for about an hour.
3
Put onion, garlic, green pepper, mushrooms over top of meat. Add one large can of diced tomatoes. Put in preheated oven at 250 for 3 hours. Raise temperature to 285 for an hour or so. It all depends how tender your meat is. Low and slow.
4
Take out of oven remove steaks, add some ketchup, brown sugar and lemon juice, on stove top, on low setting let it simmer. It will thicken up.
5
Add steaks back in, cover in sauce. You can leave whole or divide meat up a bit. I served on buns with melted swiss cheese. Would also be good over rice or potatoes.
