Sausage Rolls with Puff Pastry
I love sausage rolls. I remember trying to pass them up at delis and bakeries. I was never very successful. I’d eat them warm, cold, however…. and however you eat these it won’t matter either, just eat em up and enjoy. I made a dipping sauce out of sour cream, dijon mustard, mayo, garlic powder and hot sauce. I ended up liking them better with 57 sauce. I used Italian sausage from Costco, I will try something different next time. Over all, the puff pastry and sausage in the middle is always going to be very appealing to me!!
3 Costco sausages, mild Italian
1 box (2 packages) Puff Pastry
Don’t handle the meat very much
Use a fork to mix sausages with breadcrumbs, thyme, salt, pepper, 1 egg, finely chopped onion.
Divide into 8 equal parts, roll into sausage shapes.
Cut puff pastry into 8 equal pieces. Roll the sausage in the pastry, seal with egg wash (1 egg and 1 TBSP water), turn the rolls seam side down on oiled (Crisco oil) 14″ cast iron pizza pan, then put egg wash over top of them and slice 3 diagonal lines on top. Sprinkle with sesame seeds (or not)
Bake in preheated oven, 375, for about 45 minutes.
